About
Ruth Bowdoin,
Author
"She helps our children by educating
their parents"
Ruth
Bowdoin developed her curriculum to help
the parents of her students. Most of her
children, from impoverished neighborhoods,
were testing “At-Risk” because
their parents did not know what to do
to prepare them for school.
Vowing
to make a difference, Ruth worked intensely
with these "at-risk" families
on a converted school bus dubbed "The
Classroom on Wheels". After eight
years - she finally had her answer! She
found that parents were excited to learn
how to help their children - but they
learned differently. They needed hands-on
activities, with role plays and "low
literacy" materials - not lecturing!
From this research, The Bowdoin Method
was developed to show parents how to become
their child's first and best teacher.
There are four different curriculums which
cover parenting from birth to age 12.
The Bowdoin Method, which is published
and distributed by Websters International,
Inc., has been recognized as an approved
concept of teaching. It is currently used
throughout the United States and in 15
foreign countries.

5 or more workshops for parents of children
from birth to age 3.
Parents
will learn:
- Confidence
in caring for and nurturing their baby.
- Activities
for brain stimulation and motor development
that promotes future learning.
- The
importance of enjoying books, pictures and
reading daily to their baby.
Babies
do not come with instruction booklets, but
our parent book is the next best thing! It
lays the foundation for a strong mental, social,
emotional and physical beginning for the new
addition. Also available in Spanish, the Su
Bebe book, in hardback, contains the same
information as our English version.
The informative and multi-cultural video is
also entertaining since it is from the baby's
perspective. This video is excellent for teen
parenting classes, hospitals and schools.
The manual offers step by step instructions
on how to conduct parent meetings. It
includes games and activities to make the
sessions fun and informative. The Baby-O Games
are excellent teaching tools and fun for parents.

The
Award Winning Bowdoin Method I was developed
specifically for “low literacy”
parents to help them become their child’s
first and best teacher. Parents learn how
to meet the social, emotional, and academic
needs of their children using this hands-on,
interactive curriculum. Bowdoin focuses on
training parents to recognize those important
“everyday teachable moments” that
every parent has with their child and how
to take advantage of them. Making a simple
peanut butter and jelly sandwich becomes a
pre-reading lesson with The Bowdoin Method.
The instructor’s manual contains easy
to follow step by step lesson plans that includes
games, activities and role playing. Ten professional
videos or DVDs, attractive parenting books
and Child-O games (played like Bingo) reinforce
all the parenting skills in a positive and
upbeat manner. We will guarantee you fun and
exciting parenting classes! |

The
Nationally Validated Bowdoin Method I in Spanish
contains the same high quality materials as
our English curriculum and provides everything
needed to begin lively parenting classes.
The easy reading level and the child-like
illustrations appeal to everyone. All of the
components of our Bowdoin Method I English
curriculum are a part of our Spanish curriculum
as well. With The Bowdoin Method, parents
learn the importance of focusing on each child
as a unique individual and how to use good
words to motivate their child. Walking around
the block can become a lesson full of pre-reading
skills such as; looking for items that are
alike or different, what's missing and searching
for letters of the alphabet in signs along
the way. If children have a good beginning...
if they are loved, nurtured and taught by
their parents during their early years they
will be able to achieve to their maximum potential. |

Studies
show that early and consistent nurturing has
decisive and long lasting effects on how children
develop and learn, how they cope with stress
and control their emotions. Talking and playing
as a family, even sharing a meal together,
provides a rich sense of family belonging.
The Bowdoin Method II helps “at-risk”
parents to; partner with the school in the
education of their children, reduce power
struggles in the home, teach respect for self
and others, and to be good role models for
their children.
These are very challenging times for families,
and Bowdoin II is a Big Help! Seven important
parent book titles with corresponding videos
or DVDs, seven educational (Child-O) games
and a comprehensive instructor’s manual
makes this curriculum a must for today’s
families! |
